In a recent blog post at The Daily Beast, Meghan McCain had to defend herself against a ridiculous attack from fellow female Laura Ingraham about Meghan’s weight. Ingraham stated that McCain was “too plus-sized to be a cast member on the television show The Real World”, and criticized Meghan’s weight in a story about Barbie’s 50th Birthday.
First and foremost…Meghan McCain is far from fat. She isn’t even really “chubby”. Not “zaftig”, either. She’s a perfectly healthy, perfectly beautiful young woman.
Secondly, I don’t think I even have to mention the fact that discussing someone’s looks in the midst of honest political debate only serves to torpedo your entire argument…and it makes you look petty and unintelligent.
Finally….What is it with you women, anyway? I mean, seriously. We already have a hard enough time in this world, trying to be taken seriously by a male-dominated society that always, always looks at our rack before they listen to what we have to say. Why on Earth would we help them out by trying to lower ourselves to their standards?
Hillary Clinton, not my most favorite person on the planet (but certainly not in my bottom 10), managed to accrue 18 million votes in the Democratic primaries, despite the “cankles” comments and pants suit ridicules. The fact is, she shouldn’t have even had to endure that. While I do not agree with any of Hillary’s policies or world views, she is an accomplished, intelligent woman. And her looks have nothing to do with that. Any reasonable Democrat should be able to say the same thing about Condoleeza Rice.
What does it say about us, as women, when instead of supporting each other in our endeavors and opinions (agree or disagree), we continue to prepetuate the long-standing tradition of evaluating successful women simply by their looks?
Looks have nothing to do with what kind of a person you are, we should all know that by now. It’s disgraceful that we even have to be reminded.

Laura Ingraham is a witch and I have no respect for her hateful bitter self nor of the other GOP Mean girls who have also dogged Meghan Mccain. Why does it take someone who isn’t a pundit and has some insight into the political process thru her father’s campaign to offer some reasonable, common sense advice for the GOP. Why is criticial thinking and logic skills like some damn kryptonite to GOP people, ESPECIALLY the ladies?? Perhaps as a conservative woman you can enlighten me on that!!
Yet women like Ingraham and Michelle Malkin rally behind and are enticed by the likes of a winking MILF with daughter baby momma drama from Alaska????? Gimme a break!!!
I only approved your message as a display of the *lack* of critical thinking by the Left.
You seem to think that comments by Laura Ingraham are indicative of ALL GOP-supporting women. In fact, the worst of the worst against women have always come from the Lefty opinion-spewers.
You mentioned Sarah Palin…who is an intelligent, successful woman who didn’t need help from any man to get what she wanted…and yet, the so-called “feminists” on the left couldn’t wait to insult her and bring her down. Your very own “head feminist”, Gloria Steinem, had to sleep with a rich man to get funding to keep her magazine afloat. And she is heralded as a model of feminism!!
The agenda of these women is to push their own opinions, not advance women. That is a solid, irrefutable fact. GOP women always attack each other? Not so much.
I don’t agree with Laura Ingraham’s approach. That was my whole point. I’m sorry you missed it.
I agree that people, especially women, shouldn’t criticize others based on looks. I don’t like it when people make fun of Hillary’s ankles, or Monica’s non-sveltness (I just made up that word.), or even the perceived ugliness of liberal feminists in general. It’s bad enough that the libs resort to ad hominem attacks. Conservatives should know better.
I’m not saying that we should let those mean-spirited Liberal attacks go unanswered. Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. I just don’t want my side to be the arsonists.
